Five older anime series for beginners.

Since I will soon be reviewing anime and manga for a popular website, I decided to do a quick post about five older series to introduce to fans of newer anime, or even those who are just looking for an introduction series.I made a point to choose each from a different genre so that comparing them to one another would be difficult.I also made sure that they were at least a decade old.I would have gone for much older series, however I just don't see a newbie watching Galaxy Express 999 without falling asleep, or Ranma 1/2 without feeling very confused. No offense to either of those mentioned. They each have merit in either artistic presentation or pure nostalgia depending on who you ask. However, what I am looking to talk about are accessible series with tangible story lines.I want to talk about relatable protagonists and villains that are recognizable as something more than a throwback from a saturday morning in the 80's.

Kung Fu Skratch-A-GO-GO!

Adrian Engmann writes for Bleeding Cool:

Greetings! My name is Adrian Engmann, a writer and comic book creator just starting out with my first creator owned project. I have always wanted to be involved in comics since I was a kid. From elementary to college, I would always doodle in my notebook, brimming with new ideas and stories that was I itching to tell. One of them is something that is close to my heart called, "KUNG FU SKRATCH!".

Water Dragons

I love anime. I really enjoy my Trigun, my Bebop, and my Ranma, and I rewatch them from time to time. One of the better movies to come out in a long time was Spirited Away, by the ever talented Studio Ghibli. This is a fan-art image of one of the main characters, Haku the (SPOILER!) river spirit.

I've heard that some people have no idea why they chose a dragon to represent the spirit of a river. Why not a fish? Why not a bull/man creature like of ancient Greek legend? Is it arbitrary enough that it could as easily have been a unicorn or a griffin, or any creature off ?

Pokemon X? More Like Pokemon ANGST: Gender Edition

Gender, bros.

So, I've been playing a decent amount of Pokemon X of late, having received it this was Wednesday (fantastic late birthday present). My copy of Pokemon Blue was a birthday present for my eleventh birthday, so it only seems right and proper that Black 2 and X have been birthday presents (I got LeafGreen and HeartGold for myself, while Gold was shared with my brother and was a Christmas present; I dropped out for a while after that).I've been playing it on my commute to and from work, as well to and from the Boston Book Festival, and a little bit when I can squeeze in some play time in the evenings after work. As with previous games, I'm really quite enjoying it, although I think the group of friends is hyper-irritating and I think the story isn't nearly as strong as Black 2 s was. Seems like a bit of a step backwards in that manner, although the games certainly have been trending toward more and more hand-holding, unfortunately. Having watched my brother play Red when he was eight years old, I will admit skepticism that the hand-holding is necessary at all for younger players.

SYRIAN SNIPERS TARGET PREGNANT WOMEN, UNBORN BABIES, DOCTOR SAYS

By ATIKA SHUBERT and BHARATI NAIK, CNNOctober 23, 2013 -- Updated 0340 GMT CNN) -- shows a bullet lodged in a baby's head. The image would be chilling enough without knowing the child was still in its mother's womb when it became the target of snipers hiding in the shadows in northern Syria. The mother survived. Her baby didn't. And it's not the only one.Volunteer doctor David Nott, a British surgeon who's worked in several Syrian hospitals with the charity , says snipers are playing a "targeting game," and heavily pregnant women are on the hit list."Most of the children removed were seven, eight, nine months gestation, which meant it was fairly obvious to anybody that these women were pregnant."

1001 Nights, Anime/Manga Style

Last night I finished reading a very good book, Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed. It's a fantasy, but instead of set in a typical European-like place, the novel took place in a Middle Eastern themed world.Since this is a rather unusual setting for a fantasy novel, it got me thinking about anime, and how most fantasy series are either Asian based or European based.Oodles of series take place in deserts, but very few use the diverse cultures of the Middle East as a backdrop.

One such series is Magi, a manga written by Shinobu Ohtaka.Magi is one of two of her series to be licensed in the US, the other being Sumomo mo Momo mo.It is hard to believe that both series come from the same mangaka.Sumomo is a frantic martial arts comedy, with utterly absurd fights and characters a la Ranma 1/2.Magi, on the other hand, is a serious fantasy story with rather dark undertones. The manga touches on slavery, governmental corruption, and fate.Comedy is not absent, however, as the characters devolve into blushing chibis on a regular basis.

THE BESTS COUPLES (TV SERIES AND ANIMATIONS)

Some TV couples are so perfect and they make us dream on! Every time I watch on a TV Series or Animation a beautiful couple, I daydream about them and I'd like being her!

Is it the same for you? What do you think about it? Let me know, I'm so curious!

Anime Review: Evangelion

NOTE: This review will focus solely on the original TV series and The End of Evangelion.

INTRO: I have mixed feelings towards Neon Genesis Evangelion. I guess part of the reason why is because of how many people claim the series to be one of the most influential Anime series ever made. I heard about Evangelion from my friend from high school , and he explained to me how the series was influential with its animation, character development and character designs. Furthermore, my cousin who doesn't watch Anime, watched Evangelion during his orchestra trip and said he enjoyed it. As a result, I was excited to watch the series and when I finally did watch it, some parts were awesome. Other parts however, were kinda iffy.

Anime Girls I'd F**k Book: Page 3

Haru - Mushibugyo

Just look at her boobs. Them some big ass tities. Haru's a sweet and nice girl so imagine all the dirty things I could do to her. I could tie her up and just plow the mess out of her. Then I'd just massage her breast and lick all over them. I can suck on those breast for days. I'll get all the calcium I need.

A Preliminary NYCC 2013 Schedule

This year's NYCC is even more vicious than last year in terms of competing events at the same time. And Friday will be busier than ever. But let's break down what I'd like to cover, in an ideal world, and if I could split into multiple bodies:

THURSDAY:

NYCC 2013

It's been a bit harder to concentrate than usual, I will admit. It's not every day nine episodes of Doctor Who thought missing are discovered. The Enemy of the World is now complete, and The Web of Fear only missing one episode. They were in Nigeria! You can get them now on iTunes! I can't, as I'm at a con with no Apple devices. But that's OK, as there's much more to talk about.

My first panel was Women in Comics, in the much smaller than anticipated 1A15. (This does not bode well for Viz.) It was filled with librarians, always an excellent thing. Present were (sorry if I mangle names) Megan Kociolek as the moderator, with Becky Cloonan, Erica Schultz, Amy Chu, Emily Weisenstein, Claudia McGiven and Laura Pope-Rollins as panelists. The panel was wide-ranging and took up the whole hour. They started by mentioning those who had the most impact on then industry - Gail Simone, Larry Hama of GI Joe fame, Jennifer Holm (Baby Mouse) and Chris Claremont.

NYCC 2013

New York Comic Con is huge, and offers much to the fan that they really, really want to see. But the reality is that you can't see everything, and must pick and choose your battles. I realized this year that I had been fortunate in previous years to not have major scheduling conflicts, and not to worry about missing the things I chose to go to.

Not this year. This year, room size and lines combined to make a formidable enemy - one that required better tactics.

Week 36 update

4 WEEKS TO EDD

YES, THE CLOCK IS TICKING! BUT THEY ARE PEOPLE WHO SAID, WAIT, AND HOLD ON. YEAH, I WANT HIM TO COME OUT WHENEVER HE IS READY. NOT TOO SOON BUT NOT TOO LATE. FEELING EXCITED AND SCARED AT THE SAME TIME. NOT ABOUT THE LABOUR, BUT MORE TOWARDS BECOMING A MOTHER. CAN I BE A GOOD MOTHER TO HIM? I REALLY HOPE SO, IN SYA ALLAH.

JAPANESE ANIMATION

I like japanese animation, I used to watch this kind of progams with my friends and cousins at home. We used to play all day and then we stopped at 5pm to go to the living room and watched series we liked as Ranma 1/2, Sailor moon, Los caballeros del Zodiaco, Dragon Ball, etc..these television series were part of our lives when we were children. I think one of my favorite ones was Dragon Ball, maybe this is more like a "boys serie" but I really like the story, wich has a lot of fantasy, and the characters, it was all very funny. Another serial I liked was Sailor moon because this was anime for girls, you always choose a character you liked the most and talked about it later with friends, I liked the songs and I used to remember the lyrics. Anyway I like all kind of animation, walt disney animation or japanese animation, but after watching this series when I was a child I kept watching other series when I grew up, there is a thousand of series you can choose from, of any kind of story. I still watch series or animated movies sometimes, I like this kind of animation because is very different from american animation, I think japanese animation can have more complex stories and plots.

Attack On Titan Review

Alright, alright.I'm sorry that I ever stopped doing anime reviews, even if it was only for about a month after a general slope in quantity.I just have this thing where after trying to remain interested in the medium for a little under a year, my interest wanes. Why exactly is that?Probably the same reason that possessed me to watch every OVA/episode/movie of Ranma 1/2 within a week back in, I dunno, 2009?But it's 2013, and I feel like talking about one of the bigger anime fish of the year, and somewhat timely to boot!
