'Hiding From Burton' (186/365)

SUNDAY - we went off to the early this morning with the boys and their bikes to get some fresh air, which was fun although a shame the sun never made an appearance all day as it seemed to for everyone on my instagram feed today! Rest of the day was spent at home playing in the garden.

Making A Splash (Country Kids)

As I mentioned in an this week, all we have done outdoors this week is play with water. With it being so hot and us being able to cool off in our new paddling pool, there has not been a need to go anywhere else. It has been a week for splashing!

However, Thursday night the boys had a sleep over at Granma and Grampy's and before they went to bed they were allowed to try out the water slide - they were so excited they didn't even change into their swimming shorts! And the water was very cold but that did not stop them either!

SUNDAY - we were up early helping to set up the local Race For Life as OH's Dad is the marshall and is in charge of setting it up, marshalling the race and tidying up afterwards. Here is Burton on our walk back to the car once we had finshed helping. After lunch Daddy went and bought a large paddling pool seeing as though the hort weather is meant to alst all week.

Staying At Home Country Kids

This month has been an expensive one. What with Britmumslive at the end of June, Burton's birthday and the OH's car needing a major new part after breaking down a few weeks ago, this month has been tight financially until pay day next week. This is the reason why when we saw that we were in for some sunny and hot weather, we bought the paddling pool.OH and I decided that it was a worthy investment because it would get lots of use and would save us having to go anywhere to spend money and also reduce petrol costs.

I have felt a little guilty that for the past two weeks we have not been anywhere much. Asides from pre school for Burton, a trip to Granma and Grampy's and Tesco we have stayed at home. Then again, when you have your own garden, toys, a paddling pool, a trampoline and various outdoors toys (bats, balls, basket ball hoop etc...) there is not always the need to have to go elsewhere. Plus with the extreme temperatures we have had, it is nice to be able to cool off indoors and have lots of drinks on hand. The boys and I have had a lot of fun amusing ourselves at home and in the garden and the paddling pool has been used every day.

This week we have mostly done the following:

My Week That Was #30 (Project 365)

Cooling Off (201/365)Last Day At Ladybirds (202/365)Balancing (203/365)Camper Van (204/365)Rita's Wedding (205/365)Messing About Before Bedtime (206/365)Being Hosed Down (207/365)

SUNDAY - it was boiling hot today! We went to my Mum's where Burton recieved more birthday presents from her and my step dad - some fab bug hunting equipment and a drum kit! Yes a drum kit! It was a steal at just EUR10 at a summer school fete and my step dad could not resist! Thanks Grandad! We went to a village show with the boys but it was just too hot so they went for a paddle in the stream with Shadow to coll off instead.

MONDAY - was Burton's . Officially it is Thursday but Daddy and I have a wedding to attend so the boys will be at my Mum's. Burton was unphased by it all really, I felt a little emotional but held it together! So now we have 7 weeks until he starts school!

Ongoing Investigations: Case #223

Recently the manga came to an end. It was just a series we randomly decided to watch during the on the off-chance it might be enjoyable. But since then it has become a staple of my comedy manga diet along with and . But it seems just as quickly as I found the series I discovered it was coming to an end. Overall 15 volumes is hardly a series cut short. But when you enjoy something like this it seems to come and go in the blink of an eye.

But in the end that might be for the best. 15 volumes distinctly lets the plot play out nicely with some mystery involving why Sakura has all the fortune energy she does. The pace let each story arc have a big reveal towards slowly butsurely building up Ikari and Kana's story and then how it fits in the present. When Ikari is finally revealed he does not seem to be teased for too long but at the same time he does not just pop up out of nowhere.

A Matter of Wills

"A murder case is simply a jigsaw puzzle, a lot of things to be put together. If you have the right solution, all the parts fits into the picture. If some of the parts don't seem to fit, it's a pretty good indication you haven't the right solution."- Perry Mason Some words before delving into 's The Case of the Lonely Heiress (1948) on my previous post, "," in which I discussed three short-shorts by Edward D. Hoch and another small nugget from Richard Curtis - whom I presumed was Richard Deming. I received a few emails from former Jury Box reviewer pointing out that the attribution of the Odds Bodkin stories to Deming is probably incorrect: "As for Richard Curtis's stories for EQMM in the 1970s, the first one (not an Odds Bodkins) from the November 1961 issue has a bio that makes clear this is the young literary agent, just starting his writing career. Thus, I doubt they'd have another writer using the same byline after that, leaving only the possibility that Deming became a ghost for Curtis, which seems highly unlikely, besides which there's no evidence for it." So there you have it. In a age where High-Definition snapshots of the surface of Mars can be conjured up with a simple click or a swipe the internet is still about as useful as a self-inflicted gunshot wound, if you happen to be looking around for scraps of background information on a little-known magazine writer from the 70s. Welcome to the niche corner! Oh, well, I want to thank Jon Breen for rectifying this mistake and I'll correct my post in regards to that short story as soon as possible with a link back to this explanation.

The Case of the Lonely Heiress opens with a visit from Robert Caddo, driving force behind an irregular published pamphlet, circulated for twenty-five cents per copy under the title Lonely Hearts Are Calling, who has come under scrutiny after accusations of placing false ads to boost sales. One ad in particular stands out, "Miss Box 96," a self-described heiress and that's not the type of person that usually subscribes to these kinds of services - especially in those days. Perry Mason and Della Street begin to compose love letters to the mysterious heiress, while their private-eye chum Paul Drake provides a detective to play the part of a lonely country boy looking for companionship in the big city.

This is a Gardner novel, however, and if you think this was going to be story about Mason and Della Street stalking a "Black Widow" in the Lonely Heart columns of an obscure city rag, while trying to unsnarl her web of lies - than you're dead wrong. Mason does bait a trap for Marilyn Marlow, but she ends up being his client after explaining her reasons involving a disputed will that made her an heiress. I have to point out here that this portion of the story describes something that's known today as : "It's quite the thing for pranksters to buy copies of the magazine, write that they're lonely widowers with large fortunes and good automobiles and things of that sort, and build up a correspondence with some of these women, simply for the purpose of a practical joke." If this line is actually an unedifying tidbit of digested history, instead of something Gardner made up to flesh out the story, there's a chance that there are still old prank letters out there fooling people who read them into thinking they stumbled to their grandmothers embarassing secret ("Mom mentioned Granma had a pep in her step a year after Granpa died.") It's also an iron-glad argument that computers surpassed us the moment we plugged the cord of the first prototype into a wall socket.

Throwback Thursday #19: 1996

Translation (bad spelling intact):

TV Show

When I was 6 years old, I use to see tv after arrive to my house from school, and I think, that really was one of the best hours in the day. In CHV there was transmitted a tv show called "El Club de los Tigritos", a typical program where were given a lot of animations. The show was led by Carolina Guti rrez at first then, some years later, by Jessica Abudinen. With 6 years I didn't know where the program come from, but know I could read that the original program came from Venezuela and was adapted to different countries here in Southam rica. If I'm not wrong, the program started at 4p.m approx. and I know this doesn't sound quite good, but, it lasted until 6 p.m. I saw all the anime they gave. Inside the show, in addition to the series, some contest were part of it too. Each anime chapter last 25 min. approx. so in the afternoon were transmitted near 5 series every day in the week. Some of them are: Sailor Moon, Caballeros del Zodiaco, Detective Conan, Ranma 1/2, etc.

I'll tell you something not so related, but for me is important. I really am good to rebember songs I like, so I listened sometimes the background of the program, but, I didn't know the name of the song. About a year ago I found it, Twiggy twiggy jaja. Was a long research.

Big Announcements Like- Blood C The Last Dark Movie English Dub Cast Announced & Some Confuzzling CLAMP Developments!

If you haven't already heard, FUNimation is currently at Anime Expo in Huston and the first day there they made two big announcements! The Blood C and Wolf Children Movies English Dub Casts! Saya Kisaragi- Alexis TiptonMana Hiiragi- Jad SaxtonFumito Nanahara- Robert McCollumKuroto Mogari- Mike McFarlandIroi Matsou- Justin CookShun Fujimura- Josh GrelleHiro Tsukiyama- Tia BallardHaruno Yanagi- Colleen ClinkenbeardYuka Amino- Martha HarmsKimihiro Watanuki- Todd Haberkorn

I was so excited to hear the cast finally being announced. I'm a little edgy about Josh and Justin, but I'm sure they'll do fine. I'm so glad that Colleen was cast as Haruno; matches perfectly! I haven't really heard Jad or Tias' voices much, but I'm really happy to see FUNimation casting them for larger roles and I wish them luck! Todd Haberkorn was not actually on the list, but we all know that one is correct =D

CONSPIRACIES, TOILET PAPER AND OLD ADAGES

There is a conspiracy going on under my nose and it involves toilet paper. Yes, those little rolled 2-ply white squares we all love so dearly is part of a plot to make me nuts.

There is a raging debate out there about how the roll should hang. Does it hang from the front of the roll or from (ahmmm) behind. Now I know we all have an opinion on which way to hang and in my family someone is expressing that preference.

I am usually the person in charge of providing the rolls and seeing that there is a backup roll (ahmmmm) behind it. By all rights granted in the marriage license, I should be able to determine if it is outer or (ahmmm) behind. I don't ask for much, just that the toilet paper hangs right. I know it is right because while I read a newspaper, I notice it more convenient to rip off one-handed with the overhang.

29 down, 1 to go...

It was 29 years ago.I made a goal of running Grandma's Marathon and Twin Cities Marathon 25 consecutive years. The postal service goofed up my Twin Cities streak at 12 when the machine chewed up my entry and it was returned after the race.So I had Grandma's...

When I reached the 25th year, I was prepared to call it quits. Then my son encouraged me to run with him for a 26th race. For the 26th, I decided I would run 5.24 miles and quit. That would mean I ran 26.2 consecutive Grandma's Marathons. My son decided to run the whole race with me so I could not quit at 5.24 miles, as this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. That means only one thing! The goal was now 30 consecutive finishes...

The 29th Consecutive finish at Granma's marathon is complete.I went into the week of the race thinking the 5-mile training run on June 15th was inadequate to finish. That was the first run since Grandma's 2012.Since that was such a poor run I decided to run again on Wednesday the 19th.I completed a 4-mile run and felt expended. This year I was really concerned and knew my only chance was to be mentally strong and I believed I know my body and capabilities well.So I told Shelley I was going to run 12:30 Minute miles for the first hour with the average pace slowing every hour to the point where I averaged a 15-minute mile at the end.

Anime Expo 2013

Yes. This is indeed what you think it is.

Let me preface this by saying just how scared I was that I wouldn't be able to make it this year.I wasn't frightened solely from the fact of not being able to go; I was terrified that after registering, figuring out my hotel situation, and purchasing my flight ticket, that work would not approve the time off for those couple of days around the Fourth of July.Since I'm newly hired and the only person in my department, my leaving depended greatly on how busy we were in the few days leading up to my proposed days.Thankfully, things worked out and I was able to follow through on my oft-repeated agreement to meet up with people. The Back Cover of Volume One; Goodbye, Gus.

INSIDE THE BACK COVERIt's rather silly stuff about STADF - the Save the African (or Australian) Doodle Foundation. If you can't bring yourself to read PETER GARRAN'S handwriting at the bottom, it says:And now - to all you Doodlers - I hope you've enjoyed yourself - but the book will be back - same time - next French lesson for Volume II - Don't miss this big event - BE THEIR!"Be their what?" I've written. Although Peter was one of the very good Spellers, along with me, this is not the first time he's writtentheirforthere . (There are a couple of instances wheir I've made the same mistake.)

This is the back cover of Volume One, and like most exercise books from those heady days of the early to mid seventies, it contains information about the metric system. Metrification (or metrication, if you prefer) began in Australia in 1970, much to my relief. I remember in second class, in 1969, trying to remember how many feet or yards there are in a mile (I would still have to look it up). The metric system makes a lot more sense to me. Anyway, in the top left is official logo for the metrification of Australia (which actually took 18 years to complete officially). I made it chicken Australia, but ANGUS MCDONALD added the egg-laying Doodle aspect of it. GUS also crossed out letters and added N to make Metric Manure. I wrote Senatus Populusque Romanus, S.P.Q.R., because I was a Latin student. The price of the book was Ray Price, with clarinet. I couldn't remember who Ray Price was, and not surprising, really, as he was a rugby player in those years. (I still carry no interest in rugby of any type.)LENGTH: PETER GARRAN wrote Free Ali Baba and the Phorty Theeves

BOOK REVIEW: THE SELECTION

BOOK REVIEW: THE SELECTIONFirst of all what a gorgeous cover!!

I want to say this book is so amazing, romantic, exciting, funny...

When I started to read this book, I know I like so much but I like so so so so much. I LOVE Selection.

light novels and novel series that should be published in the US

Some manga and/or anime that I've read/watch are based on light novels and novel series; however, they're not available in the US, and I really want to read them (and know others that are waiting impatiently for them to be published in English in the US).

Some of the following I think should be published in the US in English:

Viz Media Rescues Deadman Wonderland, Licenses Gangsta and Revives Old Fan-Favourites

Anime Expo had a bunch of great announcements from manga publishers last week, and I swear I'll be caught up with them eventually!had its panel on Sunday and pleased audiences with two new licenses:

Anime Expo!

So here I am guys! I've made the full journey from being a hater to actually cosplaying at an expo(mah dream for a couple months.

My costume(Ciel Phantomhive from Kuroshitsuji I did get some compliments and waves and some people even asked to take my picture which made me really happy. I got a lot more attention outside of the con hall, like in hotel lobbies and stuff though XD.

1999: Towards A New Era

In middle school, Naru appreciated anime, fanfiction, and pretty guys just as much as the next internet-surfing pre-teen, but it was actually in her high school years when she began to discover what was so "special" regarding the former. On a whim, she created her main blog where you can occasionally find her explaining or rambling endlessly about the Japanese pop culture and its secrets unknown to outsiders. If she ever disappears from her blog, you'll easily find her at as an anime/manga reviewer or ranting on . Before we begin focusing on the quiet year of 1999, I believe I should be honest with you all and straight out say 1999 was a year I personally did not know much about until I made the decision to participate in this project. Between the end of the 90's and the beginning of the 2000's, my little self was rather occupied with shonen anime being aired in my country at the time-Yu Yu Hakusho, Gundam, and the like-which aided and formed me into the grumpy hard-to-please anime appreciator that I am today.

However, it is until just recently that I've taken the time to search around the deepest parts of the dark hole that is the Internet to find out that, while 1999 isn't the most memorable year for some of us, it certainly wasn't an uneventful year. Heck, the year 1999 gave birth to cult anime adaptations that are still present in the minds of old fans, and now to new fans of the current generation.

I had never read Lone Wolf and Cub when I started to get into manga back in the day. My tastes ran more towards Ranma and Sailor Moon at that time, and it was also in a weird format, with smaller trim than what I was expecting. Then as it went on I simply never got a chance to go back to it. Now Dark horse is releasing the series in large omnibuses, sized like the other books on your shelves (although still flipped), with the first three volumes in this giant 700+-page monster. Is it worth picking this up?

Interview With Emily Muto

[1]For those of you who were not readers back when I was a regular writer for Comics And..., I\'d like to add a bit of an introduction. As much as I grew up with traditional comic books I find myself enjoying webcomics more and more as I get older. There\'s a lot of great work out there that\'s creator driven and often has an ending planned before the creator even starts posting. Also, with many webcomics you have a chance to have an ongoing conversation with the creator(s) through comments sections, emails, online forums and, in Emi\'s case, a shoutbox. I have a lot of fun reading webcomics and some of my best interviews have been from reaching out to the creators directly. If you haven\'t checked out some of the great comics available FOR FREE online, you should. Then, if you like them you can choose to support the creators directly without any middle man.
The Way to Your Heart [2] (TWTYH) is a webcomic I started reading a over a year ago. I actually found it through another comic I read as Emi (Emily Muto) contributed a guest page [3] while the creator of Red String [4] was on hiatus. Her art work for Red String attracted me to her page and I have been an avid reader ever since.

Dororon Enma-kun Meeramera Review

THE PREMISE:

When demons begin running amuck on Earth, the Demon Patrol are dispatched by the great King Enma to return them to Hell. Leading this group is King Enma's nephew, Enma. Once on Earth, the Demon Patrol quickly befriend an ordinary earthling girl named Harumi. Together, the Demon Patrol and Harumi battle the, often unique and humorous, demons in order to protect the human realm, and you can be assured that lots of crazy comedy will emerge as a result in this remake of the 1973 original anime.

Kei and other resurrected people go on violent, seemingly endless missions at the behest of an unseen host.
